Today (1 March 2019) another milestone in the development of Cranbrook has been reached; the opening of the first allotment site in Phase 3 of the town. Crannaford allotments features 28 plots and the allotment holders are keen to put their spades to the ground.
The site is one of two allotment sites which are being delivered as part of the extensive range of Section 106 contributions, negotiated by the local planning authority East Devon District Council, which determine the developer obligations towards public amenities and community infrastructure.
Cranbrook Town Council Chairman Cllr Kevin Blakey said: “It is a great pleasure to be able to open the first allotment site in Cranbrook and see some of the allotment holders hard at work preparing the ground for cultivation. We know that gardening and food production are really beneficial activities which fit well with the ethos of Cranbrook to provide a healthy and sustainable way of life.”
Cllr Kevin Blakey cut the ribbon at the entrance to the site today surrounded by fellow town councillors, members of East Devon District Council’s planning team and allotment holders.
