EAST DEVON DISTRICT COUNCIL (EDDC) TO LOOK INTO PROVIDING CHARGEABLE GARDEN WASTE COLLECTION SERVICE

Following considerable pressure from residents to provide a reliable garden waste collection service to run alongside the new recycling arrangements, EDDC will over the next few months be investigating the feasibility of providing a collection service for a small annual fee.

Many councils across the country successfully operate a chargeable collection service and East Devon is keen to continue to improve and modernise its recycling and waste service by introducing this new initiative.

[EDDC’s recycling and waste partnership board recently agreed not to renew an expired contract with previous garden waste collection operators Otter Rotters Ltd, a community enterprise group which is not currently operating. The council’s portfolio holder for the environment said the council had appreciated the work of Otter Rotters Ltd and its value to the community, particularly as it provided opportunities for disadvantaged people.]
