The new Youth Space sessions, commissioned and paid for by the Town Council (free weekly provision on Tuesdays, 7-9pm at the Younghayes Centre for young people aged 11-19) got off to a great start this week, with over 25 young people attending the first one!
The Lead Officer for Youth Genesis (whose workers are staffing the evenings) reported that it had been, “A brilliant first session”, adding, “We look forward to next week!”
Early sessions will be geared to identifying which activities young people would like to see featured but these could include Sports (such as football, dodge ball, basketball), a Cafe Area, Workshops (for example on healthy eating, positive relationships, staying safe, citizenship, fairness and equality, anti-bullying, confidence and self-esteem), Arts & Crafts, Cooking & Games.
A great strength of the provision is that, at Cranbrook, trained youth workers from Youth Genesis will be working alongside resident volunteers. Free training is available for those interested in volunteering – please see separate post for details.
