This is a summary of a message received from SWR’s Regional Development Manager:

‘We are sorry that on recent occasions, trains on the West of England line have run with fewer carriages than normal, due to issues with the availability of our limited diesel fleet.

We know that shorter than normal trains can make travelling very uncomfortable for our passengers and are doing everything we can to get back to normal train availability as soon as possible.

25% of delays are typically attributable to SWR with the remainder the responsibility of Network Rail, for example infrastructure reliability. Fleet reliability is the largest cause of SWR’s share. We’re investing £5m across the fleet to improve reliability issues including the 159 units.

SWR commissioned Sir Michael Holden to carry out an independent report on performance issues across the SWR network and further information about his report can be found at:

Yours sincerely
